  • Overview

    The Accounting Manager will fulfill a critical role for our rapidly growing company within our Accounting team. This is a hands-on position with tons of opportunities to further develop the depth and breadth of your accounting and operational skills. The entities you will work with are mainly special purpose standalone partnerships used as financing vehicles for the Company that lease solar energy systems to residential homeowners. You will provide oversight to the Company’s solar energy entities portfolio and manage the operational, accounting, reporting and compliance requirements associated with your portfolio. The solar energy project finance structures are financing vehicles used to finance the leasing of solar energy systems and include partnerships, inverted lease structures and non-partnership lease pass through structures. This position will manage a highly creative and technical team, providing hands on guidance at both operational and technical accounting levels. This position will liaise cross functionally with internal groups such as Asset Management, Project Finance, Legal, IT, Operations and Corporate Tax to ensure investor reporting, compliance and tax filing requirements are met. In 2007, Sunrun co-Founders Ed Fenster and Lynn Jurich set out to make home solar mainstream. Upfront cost was a huge barrier to home solar adoption, so they invented the model now known as "solar service." Sunrun allows homeowners to pay for solar power, not the panels. This means Sunrun owns, maintains, and monitors the system while homeowners pay for the electricity it produces. Each business day, we install $2 million worth of solar and facilitate one solar installation every 10 minutes. Our network of more than 30 leading solar installers employs more than 3,000 people.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for recording accurate financial transactions in each entity in accordance with GAAP.
    • Manage the monthly close process for your portfolio.
    • Review complex journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations including but not limited to deferred revenue, AR, accrued liabilities, revenue and other operating expenses. 
    • Review quarterly analytics. 
    • Work with independent auditors to provide support for audited consolidated and standalone financial statements and SOX reviews.
    • Assist in developing and improving processes and procedures for our growing department.
    • Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to assigned staff that ensures development of a highly skilled and motivated team.
    • Manage the on-boarding of new entities providing detailed analysis of accounting requirements.
    • Assist with Oracle implementation, by providing business requirements, process design, and user acceptance testing.
    • Assist in establishing, implementing and improving internal control policies and procedures.
    • Research technical accounting issues to ensure proper accounting treatment in accordance with US GAAP.
    • Assist in departmental, resource and project planning. Assist with special projects as required.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum B.S./B.A. degree in Accounting, CPA preferred 5 to 7 years experience with at least 2 years in a management role Public accounting/auditing experience, Big 4 preferred Public company and Internal Controls/Sox 404 expertise.
    • Thorough knowledge of operating and reporting structures and financial policies and procedures
    • Thorough, detail-oriented, highly organized, and performs effective self-reviews.
    • Is accountable.
    • Takes ownership.
    • Demonstrates initiative to ask about new learning opportunities.
    • Must be inquisitive, have the desire to learn and initiative to reach out to various departments to complete tasks.
    • Must be results-oriented, able to manage timelines and proactively communicate on-going issues to various team members with an ability to work in a fast paced environment.
    • Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions. Ability to prioritize and multi-task accordingly in a fast paced environment is required
    • Ability to communicate clearly and precisely on operational issues
    • Excellent written and formal presentation skills Oracle R12 or comparable system experience desirable
    • Expert in Excel desirable
