  • Overview

    The Jurisdiction Specialist must be a driven, process focused, and business minded individual, who excels in highly collaborative and cross functional environments. The position works to improve the business by applying design, permitting, and code knowledge and translating jurisdiction requests into actionable requirements. A high level of critical thinking and follow through is expected to manage impact of jurisdictional requirements to different departments.

    This position supports Design Engineering and Branch Teams by tracking trends, and analyzing the cost impact of requirements to design, install, inspection, and other functions. Additionally, the Jurisdictional Specialist acts as a liaison, with the Permit & Inspections team, to cities/counties and represents the interest of Sunrun.


    • Manage and maintain jurisdictional, utility, and branch requirements in company databases
    • Develop standards and guidelines for requesting and recording requirements; create process documents and keep documentation resources current
    • Manage data integrity by gathering feedback, researching and confirming information
    • Develop recommendations to address new or updated requirements, and proactively manage impacted projects in pipeline
    • Identify business risks and opportunities, create a plan, and work across functions and execute
    • Assist managers in identifying possible performance issues
    • Support new market research and roll-out
    • Combine various, and sometimes competing, interests into an efficient and optimized strategy & platform
    • Coordinate cross-functionally with other team leaders (design, operations, sales, etc.,) to align needs of jurisdictions with overall business needs
    • Act as the subject matter expert of jurisdictional requirements, process, and tools
    • Understand technology platforms and technical requirements for software improvements, and identify areas of improvement
    • Be an advocate for Sunrun and work with local jurisdictions to streamline permit processes
    • Challenge conventional industry/internal thinking and practice to find new ways to make the customer’s experience with Sunrun better than the competition



    • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related experience required
    • Project or program management experience preferred
    • NEC code expertise required
    • Photovoltaic Solar design and/or installation experience required
    • Must be a motivated team player, looking to succeed
    • Demonstrate leadership and ability to influence change
    • Proven success in relationship management with internal and external partners
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Professional appearance and interaction
    • Strong computer skills required; Microsoft Access, Google Suite, and Salesforce or similar CRM experience preferred



    • Ability to operate office equipment including computers and determine accuracy of work
    • Ability to interact and participate in meetings
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for up to eight hours, and stand.
    • Manual dexterity which allows the individual to use hands to type on a keyboard, use a mouse and write are required, as is the ability to talk, and hear.
