    Role Description

    This is a fantastic opportunity to join the legal team of a fast-paced public company in the rapidly growing renewables industry. In this role, you will have a broad range of responsibilities including serving as a key advisor to Sunrun’s Channel Partner, Business Development  and Products teams, drafting and negotiating sales, construction, acquisition, strategic partnership and other commercial agreements, and counseling to support the development of new and innovative product offerings.

     

    The position is based in Sunrun’s San Francisco headquarters in the heart of the Financial District and reports directly to Sunrun’s General Counsel.

    Responsibilities

    Draft, negotiate, and provide legal counsel on a variety of commercial agreements (e.g., channel sales contracts, construction agreements, retail agreements), and other contracts to support Sunrun’s business activities.

     

    • Develop and maintain base forms and template agreements to support Sunrun’s  business development and partner management activities.
    • Generally oversee transactional work performed by Sunrun’s legal team and establish best practices and consistency of terms across commercial agreements.
    • Provide ongoing advice on contract terms, status, risks, and opportunities.
    • Identify key areas for business process and compliance improvements throughout the business, and coordinate stakeholders to drive resolution.
    • Undertake special projects as required to support new business initiatives.
    • Contribute positively to the culture of the Sunrun legal team and the company as a whole.

    Provide practical, business-oriented and actionable advice to the Products team in terms non-lawyers can understand from initial product development through launch and implementation.

    • Counsel business owners on the development and improvement of Sunrun’s products, with particular focus on customer agreements, data privacy and consumer protection.
    • Advise the Products Team and other stakeholders on relevant federal and state consumer laws and regulations affecting new and existing products and services, including the Truth in Lending Act; the Electronic Fund Transfer Act; the Equal Credit Opportunity Act; the Fair Credit Reporting Act; the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act; data security and privacy laws, laws prohibiting unfair, deceptive, and abusive acts or practices; and related regulatory guidance and enforcement actions.

    Qualifications

    • Eight years of relevant legal experience (although more is welcome).
    • Prior experience working with solar, renewable energy, or construction companies (preferred).
    • Prior experience drafting commercial and/or corporate agreements, and providing legal counsel directly to business clients.
    • Be professional and collaborative, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders across the company.
    • Be a confident negotiator with a proven track record of bringing deals to favorable close
    • Bring a positive attitude to everything you do, and be comfortable with the unknown.
    • Perform well in a fast-paced, intellectually challenging environment.
    • Have exceptional judgment, with the ability to adjust to changing priorities and independently resolve or escalate issues as needed.
    • Bring strong analytical skills to quickly grasp complex business models and work through thorny legal issues.
    • Value finding creative and pragmatic solutions to tricky legal and business problems.
    • Be passionate about Sunrun’s mission to Create a Planet Run by the Sun.
    • JD degree from an ABA accredited university, and must be a member in good standing of the California Bar or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g. have registered in-house status).
