  • Overview

    Sunrun’s Public Affairs Analyst on the Public Policy team will be at the cutting edge of solar and storage policy progress nationwide, developing and driving public campaigns to protect energy choice and rooftop solar growth. They will support our 20-person Public Policy team by leading advocate outreach, media, and digital campaigns across the nation.

     

    Duties of this position will include developing public policy campaign advocacy and communications strategy on state and national campaigns through a breadth of civic technology application, marketing, public relations and public affairs, grassroots and grasstops organizing, digital art and content creation, and storytelling using strategic communications to mobilize public support for home solar and battery storage.

     

    The Public Affairs Analyst will work with state policy leads and key business partners to develop strategic goals and assess legislative and regulatory strategy. This position will require collaboration with key industry stakeholders, such as policymakers, utilities, other industry partners, trade associations, and NGOs.

     

    Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop national and state-level campaign plans in collaboration with public policy directors and managers.
    • Identify and build relationships with key coalition members to help carry our message forward in local, state, regional, and national campaigns.
    • Organize rallies, press events, demonstrations, and other public action in support of home solar and batteries.
    • Manage and drive media relations and public affairs objectives for the policy team. Build press lists for local and national reporters, place national and regional news stories to drive policy outcomes, prep Sunrun spokespeople, etc.
    • Lead in drafting press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, blog posts, and advertisement copy (digital, radio, TV, etc.).
    • Execute content creation and manage online channels including but not limited to Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Google AdWords -- ensuring key messages are consistent across all content.
    • Utilize digital tools to engage existing and new advocates through Sunrun’s advocacy organizations.
    • Develop and design creative digital art elements such as videos, web pages, advertisements, and graphics.
    • Define and regularly report on the key performance metrics that demonstrate progress for ongoing communications campaigns.
    • Work synergistically with other Sunrun business partners, including corporate communications, legal, investor relations, executive, diversity, product, pricing, and energy services teams.

    Requirements & Qualifications

     

    • At least 3-5 years of experience working in advocacy, political, or strategic communications campaigns.
    • A BS/BA degree.
    • Passion for clean energy and politics.
    • Requires hands-on experience defining and developing a communications strategy, including earned media engagement, digital media strategy, and key stakeholder targeting.
    • Self-driven, enthusiastic and creative problem-solver. Thrives working in a fast-paced environment; ability to independently manage multiple projects from start to finish under tight deadlines.
    • Strong, detail-oriented writer/editor who can carry out key messages throughout all communication channels.
    • Preferred experience working in social advertising, such as Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, and Google Adwords.
    • Strong creative eye for design and ability to create branded graphics for public use.
    • Prefer experience using digital content creators, such as iMovie, Photoshop, or Final Cut.
    • Prefer experience with e-mail marketing and organizing tools, such as New/Mode, Action Network, MailChimp, etc.
    • up to 25% travel possible.
