We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sr. Director of Regulatory Advocacy and Policy to join our fast-paced team and advocate for Sunrun before California regulatory and executive agencies. You will be at the cutting edge of customer-sited clean energy policy, working in the nation’s largest clean energy market. You will span from exercising thought leadership by advocating for future policy frameworks to diving deep into detailed regulatory tariffs and rules. You will develop and manage regulatory policy and advocacy strategy in California, stay on top of relevant state agency developments, and support Sunrun’s regulatory advocacy activities in California. The Sr. Director will report to the Chief Policy Officer.

  • Monitor, analyze possible impacts and respond to California state regulatory and incentive policies and proceedings, particularly related to energy, solar and storage policies, grid services, interconnection, planning and rate design.
  • Develop and lead proactive regulatory strategies to build new market opportunities, particularly for home solar + storage systems.
  • Partner with internal Sunrun departments to see opportunities, determine business impacts of regulatory proposals and build and drive positive policy outcomes.
  • Work with other policy team members to identify and respond to legislative and executive branch policy changes that represent opportunities or risks to Sunrun.
  • Master existing regulations that impact Sunrun and the rooftop solar and storage industry, and represent Sunrun as a regulatory expert in meetings with regulators, agency officials, legislators, utilities, other companies, trade associations and NGOs.
  • Build and maintain a robust network of contacts, supporters, and industry colleagues to advance solar and storage policy.
