Sunrun is seeking a Manager of Policy to lead policy advocacy and associated public policy campaigns.  The position will be responsible for policy efforts with various  state legislatures, state agencies to drive residential and multifamily solar and storage adoption.  A successful candidate must be a self-starter and have experience directing policy or political campaigns, and working in state legislatures. Travel across the west may be required at times.  Ideally this position is based in Sacramento, CA.


  • Represent Sunrun on issue-based policy campaigns to successful outcomes – including grassroots engagement with customers and customers, grasstops engagement with influential leaders and decision-makers, and public relations via earned and paid media.
  • Represent Sunrun publicly and in front of state legislators and regulators in Sacramento (CEC,  CARB, CSLB)
  • Provide thought leadership on policies that will increase residential and multifamily solar and storage adoption. 
  • Work collaboratively and provide strategic guidance to coalitions of stakeholders, including trade associations, consumer advocates, and NGOs.
  • Monitor state legislative action, trade press, and other sources for developments in residential and multifamily solar and storage. Update Sunrun executives.  
  • Help manage outside consultants, lobbyists and associated budgets.



  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years relevant work experience in public policy on issues related to energy, energy storage, energy efficiency and/or electric vehicles.
  • Experience navigating legislative processes. Experience in a statehouse preferable. California legislature experience a plus.
  • Experience managing lobbyists and other outside consultants.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Skilled and experienced public communicator.
  • Willingness to take initiative, work through obstacles, and drive initiatives forward.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Self-starter – work independently and effectively.
  • Ability to synergize cross-functionally with internal staff and external organizations; perceptive about leading and sensing when consensus is needed.
