At Sunrun, our Data Scientists are responsible for generating innovative insights to help drive business outcomes.    This position is focused on our overall solar production and performs detailed analyses to determine drivers of changes in output and builds predictive analysis on our future production over the lives of the assets.   A particular focus is on building and communicating scientific findings to create permanent and sustainable improvements to our solar operations.  






As a Senior Data Scientist you will help lead projects within the organization and across cross-functional teams to define standards for maximizing output through different types of analytical models.   You will support all external party audits of our production and drive proactive corrections for future builds.  You will be responsible for completing detailed weather and environmental analysis that incorporate external factors effectively in the measure of output.  Your goal is to enable Data Science to influence everything we do at Sunrun to create a planet run by the sun.  



  • Ph.D. in Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or related scientific field.
  • 4+ years work experience as a Data Scientist.
  • Familiarity with applied machine learning and data mining techniques to gain unexpected insights and applying sophisticated data modeling techniques to identify underlying trends and patterns (supervised/unsupervised classification, time series, probabilistic models)
  • Experience in design and automation of experiments.  
  • Experience in statistical modeling and designing analytical methods to extract insight from complex data sets.
  • Ability to wrangle resources and make recommendations for long term implementation of findings in process, systems or organizations
  • Good knowledge of Python, especially as it applies to Data Science.
  • Good knowledge of interaction with various data sources (Relational databases, NoSQL, Structured and Unstructured Text Data.)
  • Experience synthesizing results, forming recommendations, and delivering to relevant internal stakeholders.


  • Excellent data visualization skills.
  • Experience working directly cross-functionally and translating needs of the business to requirements for Software Engineers.  
  • General knowledge of state of the art Data Science techniques and their readiness for use at an operational level.
  • Knowledge of AWS services.  
  • Interest in Renewable Energy.
